During his many years of professional practice, Bill Atwood has participated in all phases of the practice of Architecture, including business development, programming and feasibility studies, master planning, space planning and interiors, building design and construction documentation, and project management.

Bill came to Virginia in 1975 from Sarasota, Florida. In 1980, he formed William Harrison Atwood, Architects, Inc., a full service architectural practice located in Charlottesville, Virginia. In 1993, the firm expanded and opened an office in Greensboro, Georgia. In 1995, the firm reorganized and was renamed Atwood Architects, Inc. In 2010, the firm again reorganized and is now Atwood, Henningsen & Kestner, Inc., Architects.

Bill Atwood has been involved in residential, commercial and resort projects all over the Southeastern United States, and Japan. The firm’s work includes more than 5,000 multi and single family homes in urban areas, on Waterfronts, golf courses and in mountain environments. His work in this area can be seen at Wintergreen Resort and Stoney Creek here in Virginia, also at Mountain Air in Brunsville, North Carolina and Reynolds Plantation, Greensboro, Georgia. Resort projects also include gate houses, retail shops, sales centers, restaurants, conference centers, golf clubhouses and other recreations facilities. Mr. Atwood has also designed Golf Clubhouses from New Jersey to Florida. His firm has also completed more than 1,225,000 sq. ft. of planned retail shops, numerous convenience centers for a national oil company, professional buildings, and medical facilities as well.

Over the years he has also been actively involved in the community with his charity work and has contributed his architectural expertise to the Monticello Area Community Action Agency and numerous local churches.
